Enhanced with citrus brightness, nutty crunch, and simmered depth—perfect for cheese boards, sandwiches, or meats.

🛒 Ingredients

  • ½ cup dried apricots, chopped

  • ½ cup dried cranberries

  • ½ cup raisins

  • ¼ large red onion, finely diced

  • 1 jalapeño, seeded & minced

  • ¾ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp ground ginger

  • ½ tsp ground allspice

  • ½ tsp ground cloves

  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • ½ cup water

  • ⅓ cup white sugar + ⅓ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup cider vinegar

  • Zest & juice of ½ orange (adds citrus brightness)

  • Optional add-ins:

    • ⅓ cup toasted chopped nuts (pecans or almonds)

    • 2–3 Tbsp port, brandy, or whiskey

👩‍🍳 Directions

  1. Rehydrate the Dried Fruit
Soak apricots, cranberries, and raisins in warm water or juice for 10–15 minutes; drain. This plumps the fruit and ensures a lush texture

  2. Combine Base Ingredients
In a bowl, mix the rehydrated fruit with red onion, jalapeño, spices, and orange zest and juice.

  3. Sweeten & Simmer
Bring water and both sugars to a simmer in a medium saucepan, stirring until dissolved. Add the fruit mixture and vinegar (plus alcohol, if using). Bring to a gentle boil.

  4. Cook to Jam-Like Texture
Reduce heat and simmer 20–30 minutes—stirring occasionally—until thickened to a jam-like consistency. Longer simmer enhances depth

  5. Add Crunch & Finish  Stir in toasted nuts off heat. Remove from stove and cool for 5 minutes.

  6. Mature Overnight
Transfer to a jar, cover, and refrigerate overnight. This resting time intensifies flavor and texture .

👨‍🍳 Chef’s Tips

  • Balance sweetness: The combo of white and brown sugar adds layered depth and richness.

  • Citrus zest/juice: Orange infuses vibrant freshness—add just before simmering .

  • Extra texture: Nuts add delightful crunch and complexity.

  • Optional spirit: A splash of port/brandy adds sophistication—stir in after cooking for subtle warmth
